In-depth interviews with participants and nonparticipants in the Georgian-Abkhaz war.

Dr Shesterinina collected nearly 200 in-depth interviews with participants and nonparticipants in the Georgian-Abkhaz war of 1992-1993 as well as government officials, members of civil society and experts, field notes from observations in daily life, meetings of veterans’ and mothers’ organisations and war-related events and extensive additional primary and secondary materials during eight months of immersive fieldwork in Abkhazia, Georgia and Russia between 2010 and 2013.

This research forms the foundation for her book Mobilizing in Uncertainty: Collective Identities and War in Abkhazia and the understanding of civil war as a social process that connects the pre- to post-war stages of conflict underlying the Civil War Paths project.
